Day 4 on the Wenatchee to North Bend Route
Down Jack Creek, then up a badly neglected trail along Meadow Creek. Up and over Paddy-Go-Easy-Pass, down to the Cle Elum River for a mile-long road walk to the Tucquala Meadow Trailhead. Then up to Squaw Lake.
August 2017
An early start on an isolated trail.
The moon – on its way to block the sun
Salmon berries and huckleberries.
Twinberry honeysuckle.
White Pine
A meadow on a south-facing slope. Note the improved clarity of the sky.
Aspen
Elk bed – I ran across several of these in the meadow.
The trail’s here somewhere.
Yep! That’s the trail.
Meadows are especially adept at obscuring trail tread.
Looking at Jack Ridge over the French Creek / Meadow Creek saddle.
Approaching Paddy-Go-Easy Pass
The “Cradle”
Mt. Daniel and Cathedral Rock
The Cle Elum River valley.
Another dead tree zone. It looked as though some fir species was dying off between 3500 and 4500 feet in elevation.
The road walk – one mile, zero traffic.
A buck in the grass
The only busy parking lot along the way.
The base of a Douglas Fir
Red Cedar triplet
